Server List

Privacy policy

What we collect when you browse, vote or list a server, why, and for how long. Last updated October 5, 2026.

Who runs this site

Minecraft Server List is run by Ampersand Group, which decides how the data described here is used. For anything about your data, including the requests below, email privacy@minecraftserverlist.info.

Browsing

You don't need an account to browse or vote. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked first; everyone else can switch it off under Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Like every website, our host receives the technical details of each request (your IP address, your browser and the page you asked for) to deliver the page and keep the site safe from abuse; those logs are kept only briefly.

Analytics

  • Provider: Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager and run by Google Ireland Limited. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the US under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
  • What's recorded: the pages you view, your searches and filters, the servers you look at and click, and the server addresses you copy. It also records votes (never your username), the method you sign up or sign in with, what you do in your dashboard, how fast pages load, and your device, browser and approximate location.
  • What isn't kept: Google Analytics doesn't store IP addresses, and we never send it emails or usernames.
  • Signed-in owners: we use your account's random ID to link your visits.
  • Before you choose, or if you decline: Google Analytics sets no cookies. Pages still send Google anonymous signals without cookies or identifiers (for example, that a page was viewed), which Google uses to estimate overall numbers.
  • Marketing: if you also accept Marketing, Google may use this data for Google signals, which adds demographics and reports across devices. We don't show ads.
  • How long: 14 months.
  • Legal basis: in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, your consent. Elsewhere, our legitimate interest in improving the site, and you can opt out. Either way, you can change your choice at any time under Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
  • Cookies: besides the sign-in cookies under Server owner accounts, we set these.
    • _ga and _ga_<id>: Google Analytics, up to 2 years. Set only if you accept Analytics, or if you're outside the EEA, the UK and Switzerland.
    • msl_consent: your cookie choice, 12 months.
    • msl_region: whether to show the cookie banner, 1 day.
    • msl_events: passes a sign-in or dashboard event to the next page, 1 minute.

Voting

  • Your vote: the Minecraft username you enter, the server and the time. Votes make up the ranking, and each server page shows its top voters of the month by username.
  • Limits against abuse: one vote per username per server every 24 hours, and three per network. For the network limit we keep a one-way hash of your IP address for two days, then delete it. We never store the address itself.
  • Rewards: if the server has connected Votifier, we send it your username and the time of the vote so a plugin can give you your reward. We don't send your IP address.
  • On your device: your browser remembers the last username you voted with, so you don't have to type it again. It stays in your browser.

Server owner accounts

  • Your account: your email address, your username and your password, which our account provider stores only as a salted hash. We use your email for sign-in, password resets and messages about your listings.
  • Signing in with Google or Discord: that service tells us your email address, name and profile picture, and confirms it's you. We never see your password there. We use the email for your account; the name and picture aren't shown anywhere.
  • Your listings: what you enter for a server and its banner are public. Votifier settings (host, port, key or token) stay private and are only used to send votes.
  • Your activity: votes on your servers and whether each reached your server; claim codes; and a record of test votes and claim checks, so we can limit how often the site connects to a server.
  • Sponsored slots: the weeks, placement and contact email of each request.
  • Cookies: signing in sets the session cookies that keep you signed in, and msl_signed_in, which tells the page to show the owner menu. They're needed for the site to work, so we don't ask before setting them. The cookies for analytics and for your cookie choice are listed under Analytics.

Server status

We regularly check each listed server's public status (whether it's online, its player count, MOTD, version and icon), the same information any Minecraft client sees in its server list. We keep hourly summaries for 35 days for player charts and uptime.

Who handles data for us

  • Supabase: our database, accounts and file storage, on servers in Ireland (EU).
  • Vercel: hosting. Pages are built in Dublin (EU) and delivered through a worldwide network.
  • An email delivery service sends account emails such as sign-up confirmations and password resets.

These providers handle data only to run the site for us, under data processing agreements. Some are based outside the EU, and their agreements cover those transfers. We don't sell personal data or share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

  • Votes: as long as the server is listed, as part of its ranking history.
  • IP hashes from votes: two days.
  • Accounts: until you ask us to delete yours. Listings: until you delete them.
  • Server status summaries: 35 days.
  • Analytics data: 14 months.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or ask for it in a portable format, using the contact details above. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Changes

When this policy changes, we update it here and change the date at the top. If a change affects owner accounts in a meaningful way, we'll also email account holders.
